Easy Hairstyle Ideas from my Camera Roll.

I love Pinterest for finding inspiration for makeup and hairstyles. In an ideal world, we'd all want our wardrobe to be right out of it.
Its your big night and you may have set your heart on a red carpet updo you saw on Leighton Meester (courtesy: Pinterest) but more often than not, it just does not turn out as well for you. Which is why I decided to share a few very do-able hairstyles from 'Behind the Scenes' at my shoots and weddings. Some of them are pretty DIY while the others are easy to recreate by a stylist on most hair textures and lengths.

Open Hair, Don't Care!

Get your hands on a curling rod/tong and pick up sections of your hair and just roll them around the tong and hold for about 10 seconds on each section.

The more layers in your cut, the better.

Pro tip: Not conditioning (if you have fairly silky hair) and using a styling mousse before starting to curl can really help hold the style for much longer.

Tool Tip: Babyliss Pro Ceramic Dial-a-heat tong with a 19mm barrel.

Dressing Indian for the night ? Throw in a statement making Maang Tikka after parting the hair in the middle. This makes the look instantly dressy whether the hair is straight or curled.

Pro Tip: I like to use eyelash glue to hold the jewelry piece right in the centre of the forehead.

Twists on each side.
Another interesting way to style the front portion is to part the hair in the middle and twist on both sides till you reach behind the ear and give it a slight push to create volume and secure it with bob pins. This is a great way to wear your hair open and still show off a fabulous pair of big earrings. Its also a good way to getting your bangs off your face.

Side Swept Curls
You could also do 'The Rekha' and sweep all your curls to one side over the shoulder. This photographs beautifully if you have a sharp jawline.

Put it all up !

Ballerina Updo
Play it slightly casual if you are lazy to shampoo your 3rd day hair and still need to look a little done up. Tie a high pony, divide it into two sections and tease one of them to create volume. Twist around the first one and secure with bob pins. Then, use the second section to neatly wrap and cover the first one and secure with pins again. To settle baby hairs, hairspray your 'ballerina updo.'

Contour those cheekbones to showoff a chisel or better still, a massive pair of earrings or a fancy neck piece.

You could try the same thing a little less neat and undone. Tie the pony after leaving some messy texture on your scalp and take sections from the pony and curl them on your tong. Use the curled pieces to create loops around your fingers and pin them close to one another.
If you find it hard to create texture on the scalp, just take sections, twist them and secure with bobby pins.
Sections twisted for texture on the scalp.

If you prefer a lower updo at the nape of the neck, then try to recreate this.

It looks fancy but its pretty basic. Three loose plaits wound in circles and pinned to the scalp with bobby pins. I also used U-bent pins to make them connect with each other. I used these little flowers as frills to add a little extra something. This is the perfect hairstyle for a lazy summer afternoon. It requires no damaging heat styling.

I recently recreated this for one of my models along with the above mentioned texture on the crown area.

I took random sections and twisted them in a diagonal kind of way to make it look more interesting. If you have hair feels limp at the roots and it is difficult to create this kind of messy volume, then try try curling it with a thin tong and make the twists in the direction of the curl. At times, spraying dry shampoo in your roots could also do the trick.

The Low Side Bun.

You wanna put your up with an Indian outfit but are scared of looking more than your age ? Rock the glamorous low side bun just like Sonam Kapoor. It ends up being very red carpet and dressy without the harsh pulled back look. Depending upon your face cut and what you think would suit you the most, you could add volume on the crown or add messy texture (using the tips mentioned above) or just pull out a few strands to frame your face. It isn't the best hairstyle, if you are going the DIY route. Even though you might be able to recreate it, you may not be able to secure it well enough to stay put all night.

A french braid going into your side bun can make the look ultra chic too also hold your bangs off your face.

Love Braids?

If your indian outfit is too fancy for the occasion and you want to dress it down just a notch, go the braided route.

Fishtail, French or just the regular three strand braid, try to keep the look look as messy and grungy as possible. It always looks more flattering.

Bear in mind, that a braid does not hold up very well if you have too many shorter layers.

Hope this helps you find your hairstyle for a fancy night.
If you recreate any looks inspired by these, do share some shameless selfies with me on my page Tejasvini Chander - Hair & Makeup.

Happy dressing up.

Much Love.
